TRAVELING TO MADISON, WI

Please see the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Visitor and Information office for detailed information about driving or flying to Madison.  Dane County Regional Airport (airport code MSN) is the closest airport to the University of Wisconsin-Madison. More than 95 commercial flights depart and arrive daily.  Airlines that fly directly into Madison are:

You may find that it is more economical to fly to a larger airport and then take a bus to Madison.  We urge you to shop and compare.

  • From Chicago, Illinois:  The Van Galder Bus Company operates a shuttle service to and from Chicago O’Hare Airport and Chicago Midway Airport, to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union, which is one block away from the Pyle Center (conference site) and two blocks away from the Lowell Center (on-campus lodging).
  • From Milwaukee, Wisconsin:  The Badger Bus Company operates a shuttle service to and from Milwaukee’s Mitchell Airport to the University of Wisconsin-Madison Memorial Union.
CONFERENCE LODGING

It is very important that you make your lodging reservation quickly.  There will be many other events happening on the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison campus that weekend, and we anticipate that it will be difficult to find a hotel room in Madison if you wait until March or April.  There are three hotels that are holding blocks of rooms for Lao Studies Conference participants.  These room blocks will be held for our conference until March 18, 2012.  All reservations are first-come, first-served.  We urge you to book your lodging right away!

Lowell Center
A block of 35 rooms (20 standard and 15 deluxe) has been reserved at the UW’s on-campus hotel, the Lowell Center.  The Lowell Center is located at 610 Langdon Street, one block away from our conference venue, the Pyle Center.  Standard rooms are $89/night for a single room and $101/night for a double room.  Deluxe rooms are $105/night for a single room and $117/night for a double room.  Call (866) 301-1753 toll-free or go to the website http://bit.ly/laostudy18apr1 to make your reservation.  Be sure you indicate that you are with the 4th International Lao Studies Conference (code:  LAOSTUDY). 

Campus Inn
A block of 20 rooms has been reserved at the Campus Inn, located at 601 Langdon Street, one block away from our conference venue, the Pyle Center.  Rooms at the Campus Inn are $135/night plus 14.5% tax (total $154.58/night).  Call (608) 257-4391 or go to http://www.thecampusinn.com/ to make your reservation.  Be sure to indicate that you are with the 4th International Lao Studies Conference.

Doubletree Hilton

PARKING

Parking on or near campus is limited and we encourage you to allow extra time in your schedule to find parking. Visitor parking is available in city-run ramps and lots; and in university-run lots. Street parking near campus is usually restricted to two hours. The nearest public parking ramp is the City of Madison's State Street Campus Ramp located one block south of the Pyle Center. City parking ramp rates (as of December 2012) are $1.25/hour.
